TraumaTherapy

Trauma therapy is a process that helps us better understand how the brain, central nervous system, and the rest of the body are impacted by trauma and how to cope with those symptoms and associated challenges.  Trauma is defined (by apa.org), "as an emotional response to a terrible event like an accident, crime, natural disaster, physical or emotional abuse, neglect, experiencing or witnessing violence, death of a loved one, war, and more. Immediately after the event, shock and denial are typical. Longer term reactions include unpredictable emotions, flashbacks, strained relationships, and even physical symptoms like headaches or nausea."

It's important to seek help if you have (or think you have) been impacted by trauma.  There are symptom screeners and tests to help you understand if you've been impacted by trauma.  One such screener is the PCL-5 (to screen for symptoms associated with PTSD).

I received my trauma training from the Center on Child Abuse and Neglect (CCAN) on the campus of the University of Oklahoma's Health Sciences Center, School of Medicine in the Department of Pediatrics.  You can read more about their program at the link below.
